:: What is the Academic Program?

We will teach an internationally modified curriculum with a North American approach.

There will be an emphasis on developing critical thinking skills in our students. The curriculum will be implemented with the most up to date textbooks and teacher resource material from international publishers of school books, such as McGraw Hill, Harcourt Brace, Scott Forseman and Houghton Mifflin publishing companies.

:: Do you have an IT/Computer program?

Every child from Nursery to grade 8 will have a minimum of 2 or 3 computer classes per week. The two IT teachers both have computer degrees and a vast amount of experience. MIES has the World Wide Web Internet access so the children have all the opportunities to learn with today’s high technology. All computers are equipped with multimedia facilities to support language-learning activities. Every classroom has a complete set of multimedia resources.

:: What other programs are available at MIES?

MIES believes that all our students need to develop respect and appreciation of our host country’s culture. Myanmar students will study the language, other students have an option to learn Myanmar. Nearly all children take this class. The teacher has a great deal of international school teaching experience.

English as a Second Language is an important part of our program for children who are beginning to study English. The teacher is internationally experienced and trained.

There is a growing library with resource material and books the children may read for pleasure and to do research for their classes. We have expanded our library for the 2007-2008 school year with many new books and added a full time librarian.

Our Art teacher has a vast amount of teaching experience as well as a diploma in art and an advanced degree in English. She is also an accomplished artist who has received much local recognition for her work. All children in grades 1-8 will have special classes in Art.

Special Music classes will be offered for every student in all classes from Nursery to grade 8. The teacher is internationally experienced and trained. Under her guidance MIES has a dynamic program with fantastic special performances several times a year. 

Regular PE classes will be held for grades 1-8 students. The children will learn games and activities to help develop themselves physically as well as mentally. The teacher is also internationally educated and experienced.

We will offer special lessons after school in ballet and modern dance. The teachers have a large amount of experience teaching dance in other schools and organizations.

In todays world we believe that besides an Asian student first language, Chinese is the one of the most important languages to learn. With this in mind we offer Chinese as an elective to all of our students from grade 1 to upper grades.
