Administration & Teaching Staff

David A. Schaefer having several advanced degrees in education administration from universities in the United States is the Principal of MIES. He has over 30 years experience as a school administrator, with administrative certification from the state of Kansas. He is in his 13th year of residence as a school administrator in Myanmar. He has an excellent understanding and experience in developing international schools in Myanmar. In 1998 he founded another international school which now is one of the most successful and well respected schools in South East Asia. After a brief retirement Mr. Schaefer took up another venture by establishing MIES in 2004.

MIES also has a Myanmar national administrator. Ms. Kathleen Thein has many years of experience in local language and several international schools. She is also one of our school board directors. We also have several shareholders who are parents, U Htin Kyaw, Daw Nan Mouk Laung Sai, U Moe Kyaw and Daw Moe Moe Nwe who are also board members and they play an active role in the school operations. Mr. Schaefer also holds a position on the board of directors.

How about the MIES teaching staff?

Every staff member is well qualified with extensive experience, many have degrees in education, some have advanced degrees. All homeroom teachers from Nursery to grade 8 have work experience in other international schools. The homeroom teachers from grades 1-8 are all foreign nationals. Nearly all have worked in the past as a team for many years with Mr. Schaefer at his former international school in Myanmar. Therefore, they have perfect understanding of children and the expectations of an international education.

Every homeroom class also has an assistant teacher. They are responsible to assist the homeroom teacher and do every thing they can to make MIES students successful. Nearly all have worked with Mr. Schaefer before and they also have international school teaching experience.
